Summer festivals in Latvia

This summer Riga and other major cities in Latvia are more festive than ever.
Throughout the season up until early fall, there’s festivals taking place every week in Riga or nearby. From three days long modern music festivals and street food festivals, to a world-class symphonic orchestra festival, no matter what excites you, you can be sure that you’ll find something to match your taste in music, atmosphere and flavor in Riga this summer.

To gain first positive impressions one should start by exploring the variety of flavors offered by Riga’s finest caterers at the Street Food Festival in Kalnciema Quarter.
Which is actually more like a series of weekly festivals held every Wednesday evening throughout the summer season, bringing together catering professionals and enthusiasts giving you the opportunity to enjoy great meals and tastings. Besides unique and interesting street food, variety of wine and craft beers will also be on the menu.

The food is cooked and served right on the spot in food trucks, tents and grills. Generally meals tend to be cheaper than the ones offered in restaurants, but at the same time they quite often stand out with original cooking techniques.

Besides great food in Riga there are plenty of cultural events, performances and festivals taking place throughout the most enjoyable months of summer.

Starting with the rather prestigious Riga – Jurmala Festival.
The Riga – Jurmala Music Festival takes place over four weekends throughout July, August and September.
Concerts taking place in the historic cities of Riga – at the Latvian National Opera, the Great Guild, and in Jurmala –  the Great and Small Halls of the Dzintari Concert Hall.
At the centre of each weekend will be two symphonic orchestra concerts, solo concerts and morning concerts featuring rising musical stars.

However, if modern music and an unforgettable party festivals is what you’re looking for, then Positivus Festival 2019 will definitely match your interest.
Taking place every year at Salacgriva Fishermen’s Park, this year it will be held on 26 and 27 of July. Positivus Festival is the largest music and arts festival in the Baltic States, offering its visitors a wide array of great performers, plenty of entertainment options, lively atmosphere and an unforgettable experience overall.
Foreign media constantly highlight Positivus Festival mainly because of its light and friendly atmosphere, Salacgriva wonderful nature, as well as absolutely great music.

Positivus Festival has been awarded the title “Best European Festival”, beating such festivals as Roch Werchter, Roskilde Festival and the Spanish Benicassim.

Coming closer to conclusion for season of festivals, City of Riga is having one of its own – The Riga City Festival 2019

From 16 – 18 of August during Riga City Festival for three days the city is filled with festive atmosphere, live music, and plenty of activities and entertainment. This Riga summer season’s closing festival is a reason for joy, offering also knowledge and sense of the city’s lifestyle and character.

Approaching the fall season, while still getting to enjoy warm and sunny evenings everyone is welcome to indulge themselves in one of probably the greatest arts festivals in Latvia. 

The contemporary art forum “White Night” – taking place on 7 of September this, one of a kind, festival presents wide spectrum of art, theatre, music, movement and other art projects and performances. “White Night” is part of the joint “European White Nights” project by Brussels, Madrid, Paris, Riga and Rome.
During “White Night” festivals entry to all events is free of charge.
